Back to School!

So, it's back to school today. I am sure there are many parents that are breathing a sigh of relief as their children head off to school this morning.

Summer is nice for everyone to get a break from the cold and work or school, but there is something to be said for getting things back to "normal" around the house after sweeping up sand and picking up toys and garbage around the house all summer too. To say nothing for the noise level. This is my break, from 07:45 until 14:30 where I can have some quite time to catch up on reading and housework. I think it will be a slight shock to my system to find myself "alone" in a "quiet" house for the first time in weeks.

There is a down side, with new challenges coming home at 14:30, like projects, math and spelling homework.

We're trying something new this year with T.V. time. No T.V. time unless you read to earn it. Believe it or not, some kids don't like to read and it's more to do with they don't do it well and that makes reading boring. But practice makes perfect and the more they read the more they'll enjoy it. So, a half hour of reading is mandatory every day or no T.V. (which includes games requiring the T.V.) Plus they can build up a reserve of T.V. hours by banking reading time.

It was so nice and quiet this morning with both boys reading to themselves after breakfast rather than the sound of cartoons and fighting going on! :)
