What is humanity coming to?
Have you ever noticed that people are getting more and more selfish, self centered and ignorant?
As an observant person I have noticed many times at the grocery store, for example, that when backing your vehicle out of a tight parking spot, pedestrians and other motorists totally ignore the fact that you’re trying to back out. Cars drive quickly past your rear bumper like you weren’t there. Pedestrians pushing carts to their cars walk right behind or in front of you while you’re trying desperately to navigate out of your parking spot to leave. Why is this? Could they not stop for five seconds to let you out? Is it too much to ask for some common courtesy?
I’ve also noticed that when I attempt to be courteous and actually try to stop for someone crossing the parking lot at a stop sign they don’t cross in front like they’re supposed to, they cross behind you as if to say, “I’m not letting you do me any favours”.
People in the grocery store are also totally absorbed in doing their shopping and are totally oblivious to other people in the aisles. They leave their cart in the middle of an aisle while they browse a shelf nearby blocking traffic without a care in the world.
I’ve long believed that babies are born to be self centered, selfish little people. Their world revolves around themselves out of a need for self preservation. Our jobs as parents are to ensure that these self centered, selfish babies grow up to learn respect, courtesy and generosity. Failing to do this will allow the baby to grow up to be an adult that only thinks of themselves first, second and last.
Are we turning into a society of personality disorders?
Society has always seemed to demand a little more from human beings than it will get in practice. - George Orwell
